Experts in Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery for Women
Through childbirth, pelvic surgery, dramatic weight loss, or simply the effects of aging, women often experience vaginal relaxation. This causes a loss of elasticity of the vaginal anatomy, such as an altered shape or size of the vagina. The medical term for this natural occurrence in women is known as Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome. Women going through menopause will especially begin to experience a decrease of sexual drive and changes to their vaginal anatomy. Impacting both intimate relationships and self esteem, this condition can negatively affect a woman’s life in a variety of ways. Luckily, there is an incredibly effective solution for this condition, known as Vaginal Rejuvenation or Vaginoplasty.
At Dr. Stephen Dalm’s Center for Sexual Health, we offer the Vaginoplasty. It’s a functional procedure in order to tighten the inner and outer muscles of a woman’s vaginal structure. The result is an increase of control, strength, and overall muscle tone of the vagina. Vaginal Restoration gives our patients the chance to restore their vaginal anatomy for improved intimacy and overall sexual health. Our team of care providers are here to help make that transition as seamless as possible.
What is a Vaginoplasty?
Vaginal Rejuvenation, also known as Vaginoplasty, refers to surgical procedures that restore the vaginal anatomy to a more youthful look, feel and function. Vaginal Aesthetic and Rejuvenation Surgery, or Vaginoplasty, refers to two types of surgical procedures:
- Cosmetic surgery of the external vaginal and vulvar structures.
- Functional surgery of the vaginal canal to improve sexual function and gratification.
Vaginoplasty for Vaginal Cosmetics
Aesthetic Vaginoplasty is performed to improve the appearance of the external portion of the vagina and vulva. Many women who are born with enlarged labia or have this occur after childbirth or as part of the normal aging process, consider vaginal cosmetic surgery to help improve the appearance of these structures.
Vaginoplasty for Vaginal Rejuvenation
Vaginopolasty to improve or enhance sexual function corrects damage that occurs to the supportive tissues in the walls of the vagina and muscles as a result of vaginal childbirth or aging. This damage can result in a relaxed vaginal canal and or a gaping vaginal opening. Vaginoplasty tightens the inside of the vaginal canal and the opening of the vagina to increase friction and improve sexual sensation.
Who is a candidate for Vaginoplasty?
- looking to improve sexual sensation
- looking to improve the appearance of external genitalia and restore self-esteem
- experiencing stress incontinence of urine (involuntary loss of urine with coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, or sex)
What is the Recovery Time for a Vaginoplasty?
After your surgery there will be some pain and discomfort. Dr. Stephen Dalm will prescribe medication to relieve pain and antibiotics to prevent infection. You will also be instructed to refrain from sexual intercourse for at least 2 weeks or until you heal completely. This is very important since the contraction of vaginal muscles during sexual activity may cause tearing and incomplete or delayed healing.
After a week you will have your sutures removed and receive instructions on specific exercises to strengthen and tighten your pelvic muscles. Vaginal muscle stretching exercises are very important since they can reduce the amount of scar tissue formed and help to ensure an adequate sized vagina.
You must also avoid being constipated and lifting heavy objects for about a month after your surgery.
Is the Procedure Effective?
The results from a Vaginoplasty can be very rewarding – both for the woman’s self esteem and where improved sexual function is a goal.
Since Vaginoplasty tightens and restores the vaginal muscles, it re-establishes friction that increases sexual gratification for both women and men. There is a 98% success rate. In about 2% of the cases a minor revision may be necessary to achieve appropriate results.
